About Affinity

Trained at the top. Practising on your doorstep.

Peter Smith trained at a corporate level — audit with Price Waterhouse, taxation with Ernst & Young, then audit, tax and business services with Thomas Davis Elliott. He went on to spend fourteen years as Tax Practice Director at Centenary Financial Group before founding Affinity Services on the Sunshine Coast.

That experience spans retail, finance, insurance, auto sales, pipe and construction — from family businesses through to enterprises turning over up to $50 million, and high net worth individuals here and overseas. Big-firm rigour, delivered in plain English across a table in Buderim.

Peter restructured the business, moved our premises into the super fund and cut our tax bill in the same year. Twenty years on he still picks up the phone himself. You couldn't ask for a better accountant on the Coast.

What we do

People, strategies and systems — under one roof.

From compliance and audit through to structuring, super and succession — the same trusted hands, every step of the way.

Tax Planning & Compliance

Registered tax agent work for individuals, partnerships, trusts, companies and SMSFs — plus planning that legally reduces your rate and defers what you pay.

Business Mentoring & Advisory

BAS, cash flow, forecasting, budgeting and problem-solving for established businesses — including restructuring, disaster management and grant applications.

Structuring & Asset Protection

Choosing between sole trader, unit trust, family trust and company — so trading risk sits away from the family's assets, not on top of them.

Self-Managed Super (SMSF)

Establishment, investment strategy and administration of family super funds — including business premises, bare trusts and limited recourse borrowing.

Audit & Corporate Reporting

ASIC registered company auditor — external audits for companies, associations and trust accounts, and reporting under Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards.

Wealth & Succession

Wealth creation, investment and retirement strategy for business owners and high net worth families — in Australia and internationally.

The strategy

Three pillars to wealth and tax savings.

Most business owners run everything through one entity — and pay for it in tax and exposure. Peter's approach separates the trading business, the family's investments and preserved super, so each does the job it's best at.

Company

The business cash cow
  • Revenue from multiple streams at the 25% company tax rate
  • Fixed owner salaries for living costs, kept under personal rates
  • Deductible super contributions up to $30,000 each
  • Rents its premises from the SMSF
  • Recognised entity for government grants

Family Trust

Accessible investments
  • Discretionary distributions to family, adult students and companies
  • Income from rents, dividends, vehicles and third-party funds
  • Best owner of business shares, vehicles and personal property
  • Never trades — so family assets stay clear of business risk

Self-Managed Super

Preserved investments
  • May own the business premises and third-party shares or property
  • Residential property held via a bare trust
  • Assets grow inside at 15%, exempt once a member retires
  • $30,000 deductible and $120,000 non-deductible contributions pa

Rates and thresholds shown are current general information only and change with legislation. Which structure suits you depends on your circumstances — let's talk it through before anything is set up.

How we work

A simple, unhurried process.

  1. 01

    Understand the people

Who's involved, what you're building, and where the risk and the tax are actually sitting today. No forms, no upsell.

  2. 02

    Set the strategy

A plain-English plan: the right structures, the tax position, the super, and what it will cost. Nothing gets set up before you understand it.

  3. 03

    Put the systems in

Cloud accounting, reporting, BAS and lodgement rhythms that run quietly — with one phone call to someone who already knows your story.
